Four undergraduate students from Cork Institute of Technology and Institute of Technology, Tralee, all studying for BSc in Agriculture degrees, recently completed a 12-15 week work placement at Capita Customer Solutions in our Clonakilty office.  They were assigned to work with our teams on our Bord Bia and Dept. of Agriculture, Food & the Marine contracts.

Today, they presented a summary of the broad and varied schedule they followed during their work placement to members of the Senior Management team as well as co-workers from their respective contracts.

They explained firstly that they applied to Capita Customer Solutions to do their work placement because of its significant links in the agriculture sector that would give them ‘on the job insight’ to what it is to work in the industry.  In addition, feedback from previous under-graduates who also had their work placements with the company had been very positive.

The students thanked Capita Customer Solutions for the opportunity to gain valuable experience in the industry which gave them all insight to ‘real life’ work environment as well as the reassurance that there are many and varied career opportunities for graduates in the Agri sector.

We in turn have learned from them, as one colleague commented, “by having the students here, asking us what we are doing and why, gives us reason to stop and check, to ask ourselves if we could be doing it better and smarter…which ties in with our Operational Excellence programme.”

We would like to thank Tadhg Ring, Denis O’Driscoll, Padraig O’Driscoll and Caitriona Crowe for their great enthusiasm to ‘get stuck in’ and immersing themselves with our teams.  We wish them all the very best in their studies and careers into the future.  We’re sure our paths will cross again!!
